Lyon

We spent several hours on the autoroutes getting from Bourges to Lyon. Have I mentioned the tolls before? The country side was mostly flat with farms until we got close to Clemont-Ferand and then became hilly. Approaching Lyon it became even hillier and reminded us a lot of the hills in New Brunswick and Vermont. No mountains yet.

Lyon is France's second biggest city and of course has the traffic to go with that distinction. So it was a challenge to get to our downtown hotel but we did eventually. After check-in we went walkabout and crossed the Saone River into Vieux Lyon. Some interesting views.

Notre-Dame de Fourvière Basilica high on the hills overlooking old town.

Their own smaller version of the Eiffel Tower

A look along the river.

The Palais de Justice.

A couple of wandering Canucks in old town.

Vieux Lyon.

The Celestine Theatre right across from our hotel.

We had dinner at a local restaurant named Le Garet. It was recommended by our friend Abra Bennett but we weren't brave enough to try one of her recommended dishes. She also suggested the Sorbet Marc de Bourgogne (brandy added to the sorbet) and it was excellent.

Tomorrow back in the car as we head further south to Montpellier for a few days. Along the way we hope to stop in Orange and Avignon.
