Lyon to Montpellier

We can't seem to make the transition to the French versions of coffee, mostly espresso, so I started my day with a Starbucks run for two Café Americano. Where are the Tim Hortons when you really need them? However we do like the croissants and pastries so not all bad.

Yesterday's blog featured Lyon but there are two more pictures to add showing some of the night lights.

The Palais de Justice.

The fountain at Place des Jacobins.

Leaving Lyon we headed south on the autoroutes to Orange. Deen's guide books said it was supposed to be a beautiful town. We somehow missed the great sites so headed further south to Avignon. Some great sites there including the famous Pont and the Papal Palace.

The bridge doesn't go all the way across the Rhône river as it was damaged many years ago. But I did take the opportunity to dance on it. Not much fun dancing by myself as Deen would only take the photos.

Many Canadians will remember the song and the tune.

The Papal Palace grounds were also quite something.

As was the view of Avignon from the grounds.

From Avignon we drove over to Montpellier. It's a university town close to the Mediterranean and therefore lots of young people and an active social scene. Our hotel is a Hotel du Charme close to the old town with helpful pleasant staff (including a guy from Windsor,Ontario), a nice room, and certainly not a chain type place. Here is a picture of the patio outside the door to our room.

I'm sure a bottle or two of wine will be shared here.

La Comédie of Montpellier.

And we got adventurous and took the tramway back to out hotel. Very colourful trams and something we'll never see in Ottawa.

Tomorrow out and about in Provence.
