Golly, the Louvre sure has a lot of culturey stuff. Actually it was very busy there today, due in good part to the non-stop rain in Paris. And the antiquities on display are quite overwhelming. No wonder they say it can take days to see and appreciate the whole place. After a few hours we did see a lot including some of the well known highlights.
Deen and I used the audioguides and while they were OK I doubt I would do so again. I'd prefer a map and a book. The lines to pick up and then return the audioguides (which were Nintendo 3 DS) was quite long as well. There are also iOS and Android downloadable apps available but you would need earphones.
Anyway let's get going with the highlights:
The Winged Victory of Samothrace
La Giaconda aka The Mona Lisa
The Wedding Feast at Cana
Liberty guiding the people
Les Deux Mademoiselles plus deux autres mademoiselles
Venus de Milo
The apartments of Napoleon III . More ornate than anything at Versailles.
As mentioned lots more to see.
Today is also the 70th Anniversary of the Liberation of Paris. There will be a big ceremony at L'Hotel de Ville this evening. However we have various vehicles around town commemorating this including these:
Tomorrow Montmartre and Sacre Coeur. Deen and Jane are taking a macaron making class in the afternoon while Geof, the girls, and me find something interesting to do. It will no doubt involve alot of walking.
