Buses,Planes, and Trains

Our adventure to Europe is finally underway and I write this from our apartment in downtown Paris, France.

We wondered at first if we were going to Paris,Ontario instead of Paris, France. The bus pictured above is Air France flight 7114. However it did take us to the airport in Montreal for a real airplane flight to the real Paris. Very comfortable flight overnight and we arrived at Charles De Gaulle after 11am local time. We then took the RER train into central Paris and met our son Geof, his wife Jane, and our two grandaughters Casey and Jessie while walking to our apartment. Jane had found and rented a 3 bedroom, 2 bathroom place near the Louvre and we are very happy here.

After we settled in we went out to check out the neighbourhood. Several pedestrian only roads with lots of neat stores and cafes. We bought some essentials including cheese, baguettes, wine and beer. Our first stop post shopping was Le Jardin du Palais Royal. You can see me below relaxing.

From there we headed to The Louvre. It was closed but the grounds were open. A couple of classic Louvre photos.

Jessie leaning on the pyramid.

On Friday we continued our walking tour by going first to the Ile Notre Dame and visting La Saint Chapelle. Beautiful stain glass windows inside.

From there we went next door to the Concegerie, apparently one of the prisons during the Revolution and Marie Antoinette's last home before her execution.

More wandering this time to the Place des Voges in Le Marais district. We toured Victor Hugo's home then out into the park.

This is the view of La Place des Voges from Victor Hugo's window. Very pretty place.

Not sure what tomorrow brings but it will certainly involve a lot of walking.
